	“I always enjoy going to Bosque School. It's not the usual sitting in a classroom for an hour and taking notes while the teacher lectures about something you don't even care about. It's completely different, and that’s why there are so many things I look forward to here including Winterim, morning meeting, activity block, and surprisingly, my classes. Whether releasing my imagination in art, helping our community in Service Learning, or learning about the history of our country in social studies, I am always learning. 	“All of the classes at Bosque have a special flair to them. In math you learn and have fun, in Spanish you get to listen to great songs each and every time you step in the classroom, and in art your imagination takes over. But, I love reading and especially the books in English class. Mr. Guy, our English teacher, and Mr. Knapp, our math teacher, are always loaded up with funny jokes and open imaginations. 	“There are many different projects in all the different classes at Bosque. But, I think the most fun projects were the quest stories in 6th grade. They are an awesome project in English class, taught by the awesome Mr. Guy. You get to design your own character and send them into a world of adventure where they encounter obstacles, villains, friends and foes, and the author is...you!” Ryan, Class of 2017

Meet Bosque Parents

"My husband and I spent 20 years in Honolulu before moving to New Mexico. For us it is "home". We spent this past Thanksgiving there and had a magical time with our daughter Samantha (7th grade). On the last day we were sitting out on our lanai, staring at the beautiful ocean. Samantha became extremely upset. "I don't understand why we just can't live here. I don't want to go back to New Mexico." I calmy said, "I'll move back tomorrow, but you will not be able to attend Bosque anymore." She went quiet and thought about that for about 30 seconds and then replied "I guess I can tough it out for 6 more years." End of conversation.

I want to thank you for giving my child such a wonderful school that she would choose it over living in Hawaii. That says a lot about Bosque and what my child is getting out of it. She truly LOVES Bosque, as do we! Mahalo!"

From a recent article in the American Indian Graduate Center's (AIGC) quarterly magazine, Bosque parent Dr. Kevin Goodluck wrote, “ ‘I see the pulmonary branches and alveoli example,’ my tenth grade son said, as we looked at a nearby tree, to review what he learned at a First Responder’s course he took at Bosque School. ‘The lung starts as a main tracheal trunk and branches to the two bronchial. They branch off into smaller and smaller airways. These end in the alveoli, the leaves.’ He saw it and he got it. I understood, right then and there, that comparing myself to him at that age, coming from the Navajo reservation, I never got it. His education far exceeds my own at that age. His motivation at this age blows mine to smithereens.” When Kalen, class of 2012, joined the Medical Responder Corps (MRC), at Bosque School, it was a turning point for him. It was like a "light bulb" went off and all he was learning made sense, as he knew his passion and direction. I thought when this happened... this is why we have sent Kalen to Bosque School. Kalen has found another passion through Bosque School. This happened when he wrote an essay and was selected to attend the Student Diversity Leadership Conference during his junior year. His experience has blossomed into confidence, finding his advocate voice and opened up his eyes that he can make a youthful difference in his community and be comfortable in his own skin. This also includes helping others see the importance of acceptance and respect for all. Meet Bosque Alumni

Andrew Schoen, Bosque School ‘08 and Cornell University ‘12, received the 2011 Morris K. Udall Scholarship for U.S. students with excellent academic records and an interest in careers in environmental public policy, health care and tribal public policy. This year, 80 scholars were selected from a pool of 510 applicants from 231 institutions.

Schoen, who is pursuing a dual degree in economics and science of earth systems (in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering) from Cornell University, focuses on solutions that make both economic and environmental sense. He founded a sustainable investment firm in 2008 called Adams Financial LLC, and is the managing director of the Cornell Venture Capital Club.

Before transferring to Cornell, Schoen studied the intersection of economics and the environment at Cambridge University (United Kingdom, summer 2010) and at Yonsei University (South Korea, spring 2010). Originally a student at the University of California-Santa Barbara, Schoen conducted university-sponsored research on the relationship between toxic emissions and economic output.

After graduation, his goal is to "develop a venture capital firm that supports environmentally sound businesses and is itself run sustainably, [thereby] demonstrating that economic prosperity need not be built on environmental degradation."

“I believe that Bosque School helped me grow as an individual and it broadened my perspective on the world. Ultimately, Bosque School opened many doors and opportunities that I would have never dreamed of if I had attended a public school. Though Bosque is a small school, it has huge rewards. For instance, I attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) twice, during my junior and senior years; this conference explores diversity issues across the United States. I was also able to gain more knowledge in regards to my surroundings through a school program known as “Winterim” where students engage in a week-long educational course that is not taught in the traditional classroom. That is to say that Winterim is a time when students can travel to New York, Florida or remain in-state and explore the culture that the particular region has to offer. I was fortunate enough to have such an experience and actually travel to New York City. The course focused on the impact of both classical and modern art in today’s society and reflecting on the trip, I have gained a vast amount of knowledge of how art can be used to change the world. Bosque School not only provides an excellent education in the classroom, but also outside of the classroom.” Joel was awarded a Gates Millennium Scholarship and is currently studying at Colorado College.

“I’ve always felt a need to serve my community and make a positive impact. I believe educational inequality is one of the most devastating travesties. I feel extremely blessed to have been afforded my Bosque education. Teach for America offers me the opportunity to be a small part of a solution and work with students with challenges similar to mine, like dyslexia, and for this I am extremely grateful.” Roland graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Political Science from George Washington University and received a coveted position as a Teach for America 2010 Corps Member. He is currently teaching 11th & 12th grade special education classes in Denver.
