Service Learning

Service Learning is an educational experience that takes students from the classroom into community settings, applying academic and real-world concepts while meeting a real community need. At Bosque School, we believe strongly that integrating meaningful service with instruction and reflection will enrich learning, teach civic responsibility, and engage students in issues affecting the larger community – locally, nationally, and globally.

Goals of Bosque School’s Service Learning Program include helping students to:

Increase their awareness of social, economic, and environmental issues
Learn about how organizations and individuals can help address and impact these issues
Experience and understand the value of volunteering time and talent to be part of the solution
Develop a deeper sense of empathy, as well as an ethic of service to others.

Service Learning Opportunities for Students and Families

The Center for Non-profit Excellence offers the ability to search a comprehensive list of volunteer opportunities in Albuquerque and throughout the state. By using key words related to the kind of work you like to do, specific organizations are identified to meet your particular interests.

Center for Nonprofit Excellence

Students and parents can use this resource to develop vacation or summer break volunteering activities, or simply for weekend opportunities. Consider planning a family outing focused on serving our community. Please contact the organization directly for specific information about how you can help. (Note: some agencies have age requirements, which might preclude minors from volunteering without adult supervision.)
